Seven Mile Road - SOLD
nn
A month or so ago, I met with a couple of friends to paint en plein air and instead we all went on a photo jaunt together. The sense of fleeting beauty was so strong, we agreed to gather as many photos as we could, to savor in the winter months. Like squirrels and nuts (we were the squirrels!).

Ionian Brew
oil on canvas
I can still hear the waves crashing against the sand, see the effervescent surf glowing in the night, and feel the cool ocean breath on my face.

Brambling Rose
oil on canvas
A rose bush I bought and planted a few years ago has been taken over by the root stock. The canes it shoots out in 10-foot lengths produce unattractive, short-lived blooms. The hips that follow are the only reason I haven't pulled the entire thing out of the ground.

Contemplation
oil on canvas
Another painting done for Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks. This was painted from and upside-down photograph, which I resisted all temptation to turn right-side up until it was complete. I've never painted a figure before, so it was doubly interesting to try from an inverted reference; I didn't notice the confluence of lines at her head until I turned the painting around, but I liked it, so I left it that way.

Waiting For Change
oil on masonite
This was painted for Karin Jurick's Different Strokes From Different Folks blog. It was a lot of fun to do, and interesting to compare to others' interpretations of the same photograph. I felt an ambiguous title was appropriate for an ambiguous scene. Thanks, Karin!
A Creek Runs Through It
oil on canvas panel
This scene was a challenge. I wanted to convey the depth of the woods beyond the creek while retaining the feeling of simplicity and serenity. A peaceful Autumn morning filled with sunshine, and a bubbling brook beckoning in the shade; what a beautiful world God made.
Country Mile
oil on canvas panel
A group of artists met and painted en plein air at this lovely site near Glenwood, Washington. At the time, I just had to paint a grove of aspens in the other direction, but took lots of photographs, including the one which inspired this painting.

Aspen Air - SOLD
oil on canvas panel
SOLD
The aspens are beautiful year-round, but the fall colors make such a nice contrast to the shadowy trunks.
